About the Group

The Alsbaiee Research Group operates at the intersection of organic chemistry, polymer science, and materials engineering — driven by a single imperative: sustainability.

Our work spans three interconnected frontiers. We design bio-based and recyclable hydrogels and polymeric materials. We engineer porous organic polymers to capture PFAS, heavy metals, and emerging micropollutants from contaminated water. And we develop chemical and thermomechanical recycling pathways for thermoset plastics — materials long considered unrecyclable — to bring them into a true circular economy.

Grounded in deep industrial R&D experience, we balance scientific rigor with practical scalability. Every project is built to travel the full distance: from molecular design to real-world implementation.

We believe the next generation of materials must do more than perform. They must be designed, from the start, to last responsibly.

Porous Polymeric Adsorbents for Water Purification

A central focus of our research is the design of high-surface-area porous polymers derived from biomass feedstocks, particularly β-cyclodextrin, for the rapid and selective removal of contaminants from water. By crosslinking β-cyclodextrin with rigid monomers, we create permanently mesoporous polymer networks with adsorption kinetics that far surpass conventional activated carbons. These materials are synthesized from cost-effective monomers and are regenerated by simple solvent washing.
